Foreigner’s guide

Your PKK and Polish driving licence, explained in English.

The process has several official steps. Use this guide as a practical roadmap, then confirm document requirements with the relevant Warsaw office for your circumstances.

1. Confirm your eligibility

Before applying, confirm that Poland is your normal place of residence and that your stay and identity documents are accepted for the application.

2. Complete a medical examination

Visit an authorised doctor for a driver medical certificate. The doctor assesses whether you are fit to drive.

3. Prepare your documents

Typically you will need an application, compliant photo, identity document, proof of residence or stay, and the medical certificate. Your local office can confirm your exact case.

4. Apply for your PKK number

Submit the documents to the appropriate Warsaw district office. PKK is your unique driver candidate profile and is needed to begin formal training.

5. Complete your driving course

Study theory and complete practical training with a registered school. At OSK Lauto, instruction and support are available in English.

6. Take the WORD theory exam

Book the state theory test at a WORD centre. English is available as an exam language; check the current booking options when registering.

7. Pass the practical exam

After passing theory, take the practical state exam. Once both tests are complete, follow the office payment and collection instructions for your licence.
